Loft Palazzo

Research Cluster RC0

Remote working and working from home are becoming the new normal, a rapid shift that pushes us to rethink established domestic typologies. Loft Palazzo reimagines the typology of the loft while adapting it to the specific needs of people who work remotely. If lofts are traditionally undetermined column-less spaces resulting from an adaptation of a manufacturing typology to living, our project aims to hybridise living and manufacture in a space that combines flexibility with specificity.

This project introduces an algorithmic typology aiming to automate the design process by encoding typological qualities into spatial relations and parametric interdependencies, generating precise yet adaptive spatial conditions. Using computational tools, such as machine learning, computer vision and genetic algorithms, this algorithmic typology provides a possible answer to the challenges of remote work while presenting a new methodology for using computational tools in design as organisational and programmatic tools rather than formal engines.
