The fireworks set off on the traditional festival Spring Festival is a very important traditional memory of the Chinese people. For environmental protection reasons, some Chinese cities prohibit setting off fireworks in urban areas. In order to preserve people's memory of fireworks, the project is using AR and gesture and expression recognition technologies to represent the process of people setting off and watching fireworks together with their relatives and friends.
The project is divided into two parts: people setting off and people watching. In the first part, designers focus on the interaction between the human and the fireworks. With the technologies, we can simulate the process of setting off fireworks and capturing people's emotional changes when watching fireworks on mobile phones. In the second part, designers focus on the interaction between fireworks and the environment. AR integrates virtual fireworks with the real environment.
The project sets up three kinds of gesture recognition interaction: Clenching your fist to move the fireworks box in the virtual space; opening your hand to place the fireworks box; and clicking to rotate the fireworks.
In order to give feedback and enhance people’s emotional changes, the project perceives the real-time emotional performance of users and changes the fireworks size, colour, type etc.
